Die Hard

I love Bruce Willis SO MUCH. Like, OH my word. He is an amazing actor. He always has been. I loved him in 'Hostage' and I LUH-LUH-LUUUUUUUUUVED him in this movie!! It was made in the 80s, so he was a lot younger and had huge amounts of talent (he still does but whatever).

John McClane is a young cop from New York City. He's coming out to LA to see his wife and children for Christmas -- he and his wife have been separated for 6 months. He makes a stop at his wife's company Christmas party and while he's at the office cleaning up in the bathroom, terrorists take over the building and take everyone on the floor hostage. John, being a cop (and a good one, at that!), gets away and starts fighting against the terrorists. He contacts the local police, and they don't believe him...he pulls a fire alarm, and the terrorists override the call. So, he takes matters into his own hands (along with a machine gun and some C4...) and starts terrorizing the terrorists.

Seriously...WATCH THE MOVIE!!! I know it's rated 'R', and if you have moral issues against that, I understand, but YOU ARE MISSING OUT!! It's pretty violent and there's some language, but it's good entertainment, folks, truly. Bruce Willis is amazing (as always!!) and there's a lot of humor mixed in with the action, so it's not all 'serious' all the time.

4 stars. They swore a little too much.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

I was not scared of this movie. Sure, it made me jump a lot more than once (my friend Allen will tell you all about it...), but it didn't keep me awake at night, and it didn't make me stay up til 3 AM just to make sure that I lived through the Witching Hour or whatever. It did, however, make me realize how real the spiritual forces are and how much people are affected by them.

The movie starts out at the small, slightly run-down home of the Rose family. The first person you see is a doctor who has been called out to the house. We quickly find out that Emily Rose has died, but not of natural causes. You see, the Rose family has been convinced that Emily has been possessed by demons. They had called out their family priest to cast out the demon, and in the process, Emily died. The priest is arrested when her death cannot be explained naturally and he is taken to court. Erin Bruner is the reluctant lawyer who took his case.

Erin is an agnostic...she doesn't know whether or not there's a God or demons or angels or heaven or hell. But, as the trial progresses, her eyes are opened to the strange possibility that they could all actually exist. These things that happened are by no means pleasant or 'natural'...but it opened up the possibilty.

Just because this movie didn't scare me doesn't mean it won't scare you. It really is dark and dangerous in many ways. It made me more sad than scared, just because it seems like such a scary experience. I mean, the movie was based on a true story...to go through what she went through would be horrible. Emily was possessed by 6 demons...allegedly the ones that possessed Nero, the Legion, Cain, Judas, Elail, and then Lucifer himself. If this did indeed happen...why Emily? Why would these particular demons feel the need to possess her?

It makes you think...it really makes you take a look at your faith (or lack of it).

I really liked it. From the psychological, legal, and spiritual standpoints, it was superb. The acting was amazing. I don't know if I could pull off acting possessed, but Jennifer Carpenter did an awesome job. The script was really good, and so was the camera work. I love the way they let us see through the eyes of Emily...it was very well done.

4 stars. I guess it was WAY too Catholic for me...but it was good nonetheless. NOT THAT CATHOLICISM IS BAD...I'm just Baptist...so it's different...
